Paradigm Shifts

Question:  Is it typical for someone not to be able to understand anything in his or her study?

I have been trying to work through Pioneers of the Heavenly Way by T. Austin Sparks and I just cannot make sense of anything.   Even reading the Bible, everything just seems to be lost and unfocused.  Maybe one or two sentences will hold meaning.  All else seems like I am reading something in a different language.  Is this a temporary problem or something I can resolve?

Hey, your clothes are inside out!

Are you wearing the truth that way?

Neo (The Matrix) had his reality turned around.  Unseen forces controlled the world.  Overcome or be enslaved.

The apostle Paul had his reality turned around.  God took him to the backside of the desert to unlearn.  He that persecuted Christians would see the truth of the one he persecuted.

What about the church?

Does it hold the truth inside out?  It has focused on a partial gospel.  The direction has been mostly man-ward . . . salvation, sanctification, representing Christ on earth etc.  True, but incomplete.  Ephesians declares the purpose of the church.  It is the manifestation of God's Son to principalities and powers.

Learn to think spiritually.  Move and live in and by the Spirit.

God is spirit - we worship in spirit and truth.

  • Translation complete - from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His Son.

  • Weapons not carnal . . . we war not with flesh and blood.

  • Mission: exercise authority over demonic powers.

  • Possess heavenly ground.  Your own spiritual plot to subdue, cultivate, and exploit.

Practically speaking, review the facts:

  • God has His hand on you.  You have surrendered to Him.  He has brought you to this place.  He leads and directs you.
  • Cultivate discernment.  Learn to recognize the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Lay down the need to understand with your mind first.  Many times men and women of God had no understanding.  They just followed His direction.

This is a large part of coming to know Him.  There is much to be said regarding letting go of control for the revelation of Christ.

From this place, simply ask, "am I to go here?  Am I to do this?  Am I to continue reading or should I rest and ponder?" and other questions like that.

Most things will not come as a direct answer.  Rather as a knowing, this is the path and you should follow.

Press into God.  He reveals Himself to the hungry heart.

These are great truths that one would think would be foundational, yet the church seems to have missed the "Key" to walking in the tangible reality of Christ. It takes a while to turn the garment right side out...when it happens...WOW!! Christ in you (the only hope of glory!) becomes so alive and joy springs anew.
