THINK...Don’t Let Your Mind Get in the Way

Spiritual things have substance. It is not a material substance, but it is substance just the same. God is spirit and spirit is a substance. The composition of heavenly things is spiritual substance. The body of the angels is of some substance, not the same material as our bodies, which are earthly, but substance just the same. So how will you learn such things?
How can you think and not let your mind get in the way? For one thing, before you approach a subject for new consideration lay down preconceived ideas and prejudiced mindsets.
There are strongholds of the mind. These well-guarded fortresses have layer upon layer of reinforcement. Many people start from what they consider fact and look for a confirmation of their already formed conclusion. This approach may signal stronghold ahead!
Be willing to challenge your own beliefs. The object is to be open to growth and insight. Revelation may come simply by looking at something from a different direction. It is very possible this will increase your already formed belief, not tear it down.
The Bible states that wisdom from above is willing to yield to reason.
Be open-minded:
- Be willing to consider something new.
- Be willing to endure the possible frustration of not understanding immediately.
- Be willing to 'put it on the shelf' without the need to accept or reject.
- Be willing to be uncomfortable when these things make you feel unsettled.
If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to every one liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or fault-finding, and it will be given him.[i]
Trust yourself to God who offers wisdom to anyone who asks. He gives wisdom to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly if we ask in faith without doubt and wavering. Simply put, believe God that if He said He would give you wisdom He will. It may not come immediately or in the way that you expect, but it will come if you refuse to doubt and question. That has been a rock solid scripture for me for many years and God has never failed me.
Do not be conformed to this world … but be transformed (changed) by the entire renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you] [ii]
Read the above scripture again. Don't conform to this world! Don't be governed by its standards! Renewing your mind will transform you. You will know God's perfect will for you!
Renew your mind by searching out the mind of God in His Word!
