NO never again

You will never do this to me again. I don’t know who you are or what this is but, I declare, you will never do this to me again!

Have you ever felt an oppression that would make you react like this?  I have, and it brought me to a complete new understanding and view of the world.

After I made that declaration, I spent time in prayer.  The Holy Spirit said - something is over you, but you must come over it!

Naturally, my response was - how do I come over it if I do not know what ‘it’ is?

Sometime later, the Holy Spirit spoke - the problem is that you do not recognize that ‘the world’ is a spirit. You never allowed it into your quiet time, but because you do not recognize it as a spirit, it can come over you unknowingly at other times.

This I had to ponder …

The spirit of the world

I never thought of the world as a spirit. Scriptures came to my mind –

…the god of this age (world) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.i

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is of God;ii

The spirit of the world blinds the eyes of those who do not believe.  This is not just the lost, but believers who are walking in unbelief.

The Bible tells us that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.iii  This is not speaking of the world in the sense of the physical earth.  It speaks of a system that is against Christ. This world and the systems that lie behind it, are created and controlled by Satan himself.

It never occurred to me that a spirit, the spirit of the world, orchestrated intrusions.  In my very early years with the Lord, I recognized the value of early morning prayer time. It had a built-in protection… all the pressures of life were prevented from encroaching because everyone was asleep and I wanted it to stay that way!

Because of the need for quiet, I could not be drawn into the busyness of the day, or the pull of - I should be doing this or that. I trained myself to resist the intrusion of the world during prayer. Now, I needed to recognize it throughout the day as well.

The seduction of the world

The seduction of the world is recognizable as a spirit’s activity in John 16. Consider the fact that when the Holy Spirit comes, He reproves the world about judgment because judgment has come upon Satan, the prince of this world.

And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:

About sin, because they do not believe in Me [trust in, rely on, and adhere to Me];

 About righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God), because I go to My Father, and you will see Me no longer;

About judgment, because the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world [Satan] is judged and condemned and sentence already is passed upon him.iv

All around us, we experience the pull of this world. We find ourselves drawn in like a revolving door. Do this, do that, perform, meet the expectations of those around you, and on it goes. Many things seek to pull us out of our heavenly position in Christ.

Remember we are living in the midst of a world system that is at war with Christ.  It is violently opposed to our presence.  We are a threat to the powers that be as we exercise our authority in Christ.

The spirit of the world will come over you if you fail to prevail over it.  May we be those who say to the spirit of the world…

NO never again!
