What is your covering

My People are covered with the demons

they INSIST on living as natural men!

When the Spirit of God spoke these words to me, it took me back.  You too may feel affronted by such a statement.  How can this be?

First, consider what it means to live as a natural man.  By simple definition of the word, we can conclude it is to live by one’s own natural thought, reasoning, and power.  The Corinthians were graced with many gifts and yet not spiritual. They were living like natural carnal men.i

I believe the Lord was addressing the natural man’s insistence on understanding on a human level.  Understanding through the five senses.  If there is no substantial natural proof, there is refusal to believe.  This is very true when it comes to a real awareness of the demonic and their continual destructive activity toward man.

Keep in mind that at a mental ascent level you may agree that there is demonic activity on earth.  Nevertheless, take the litmus test to determine whether you truly believe or not.  Measure how many times and to what degree you exercise authority over demons in your personal life and prayer life.

Jesus cast out demons and instructed his followers to do the same.

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.ii

To walk dependent on our natural man and his thinking, is to subject ourselves to the rule of Satan.

The usurper rules over those who walk in the ways of the world.  Consider the following passage:

AND YOU [He made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sin. In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience ...]iii

As believers, we are born again by the Spirit of God.  We are new creations with all that was old passing away. God has translated us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His Son.  He seats us with Christ in heavenly places. Jesus is made unto us wisdom. With just these few of the many facts, should we not expect to be living on a different plane?

To insist, speaks of hanging on and resisting.  To insist on living as a natural man is to cling to the need of proof instead of what God’s Word reveals of this present darkness and the demons who rule over it.

Satan is the God of this age.  The greatest peril to his godship is spiritual illumination.  Once our heart is enlightened, Satan's power is at once broken.  The Lord said to Paul on the Damascus road  . . . unto whom I send thee, to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God.iv

T. Austin Sparks addresses what happens when believers remain on the ground of nature (the natural man), as opposed to living on resurrection ground, a life in the spirit:

The two things go together: From darkness to light; from the power of Satan unto God.  I repeat that the greatest menace and peril to Satan and his position is spiritual illumination.  Hence he must find ground on which to perpetuate and maintain his position, his godship, in this age.  And what ground will satisfy him in that matter?  The answer is, the ground of nature.  You get on to the ground of nature and you have given Satan right of possession.  Every time we do that, Satan's hold is strengthened.v

What kind of hold comes over the mind to cause such a clinging to the limited perception of the senses?  As believers we have available to us the unlimited resource of the wisdom of God.  May God open our eyes as He opened the eyes of Elisha's servant.iv Press into God daily asking Him to open your eyes to see into the unseen.

Align yourself with the word of God by faith and instead of insisting, start resisting!  Resist the demonic covering that rests on the natural man by living on resurrection ground, that is to say, living a life in the spirit.

May we be those who, when asked what is your covering, boldly proclaim that our covering is the blood of the Lamb!
